The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is the national agency of the institutions of higher education in Germany. It promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with developing countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programmes. It has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to organize events in African countries to support measures of the NELGA initiative – jointly implemented by the African Land Policy Center (ALPC), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the World Bank. Within the framework of NELGA, the DAAD provides staff exchange and research fellowships for African universities and professionals and implements a wide scholarship programme.
